The Sofia National Opera and Ballet was founded in 1890 in the Western European and Russian opera theatre traditions. The permanent troupe of soloists, choir, orchestra, ballet and production teams present a number of opera and ballet premières each year, in addition to concert programs. Previous productions at the Sofia National Opera and Ballet include Madame Butterfly, Swan Lake, Dido & Aeneas, Tosca, Othello, La Traviata and Pinocchio.
